How to play ComedOn online

ComedOn is a browser card game of comebacks for 4 to 12 players. Everyone holds a hand of attack cards, and each card is its own little game: accuse a friend of an absurd crime, make them sell something nobody wants, hand them a ridiculous secret role for a job interview, or send them to pitch an impossible startup. The victim writes an answer, everyone else becomes the jury and scores it from −5 to +5. Funny scores for the defender; a flop scores for the attacker.

  1. Create a room

    Hit “Create room”, get a code and set the game up: hand size, how long an answer gets, and which card types are in play.

  2. Invite friends with a link

    Paste the link into a chat — they join from a phone or a laptop. Four players minimum, but six to ten is where it works: a bigger jury is a fairer one.

  3. Attack with a card

    On your turn, pick a card and a victim. They get about a minute to write the funniest answer they can — an alibi, a sales pitch, an interview answer, a meme caption.

  4. Judge, and count the score

    Everyone else scores it from −5 to +5. Plus goes to the victim, minus to the attacker: a weak card punishes whoever played it. When the hands run out, the highest score wins.

Rules, card types and scoring

Every card has its own answer format, and that is what carries the evening — you are not answering the same question twenty times.

Alibi
You are accused of something absurd — painting the zoo’s zebras pink, say — and have to explain yourself well enough that the table believes you, or at least laughs.
Hard sell
Sell the table something nobody needs: a 400-page manual on blinking. It is not the logic being scored, it is the delivery.
Job interview
You are secretly handed a ridiculous role and have to get through an interview without admitting what it is. The jury scores how straight you kept your face.
Startup pitch
Pitch an impossible product — a hamster crossed with a cryptocurrency. The more serious the tone, the higher the scores.
Meme card
A whole-table round: everyone writes a caption and everyone votes. A good way to pull back in anyone who has not been attacked for a while.
The jury
Everyone not in the round. Scores run from −5 to +5, so a boring answer can be punished rather than merely not rewarded.
The attacker’s risk
Negative scores go to whoever played the card. Attacking a strong player with a weak card is a way to lose points yourself.
End of the game
It ends when every hand is empty. Whoever has the most points is the comedy champion.

How many players do you need?

Between 4 and 12. Four makes a thin jury; six to ten is where the scoring becomes noticeably fairer — and funnier.

Do I need to download anything or sign up?

No. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile, and a guest can create a room with no account.

Is it free?

Yes. Tokens for play time are granted daily and a short ad tops them up. A subscription removes ads and raises the player limit.

Do I have to be funny?

No. Half the best answers in this game are not jokes at all — they are completely straight explanations of completely absurd things. The format carries people who are sure they are not funny.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes, that is the main way it is played: cards, the answer field and the voting are all built for a mobile browser.

Does it work for a work social?

Yes — it starts from a link in under a minute, needs no install, and works well on a call. The card set can be narrowed in the room settings.

What if somebody does not answer in time?

The round carries on: an empty answer gets scored by the jury like any other. How long an answer gets is a lobby setting.
